With the exception of hanging a few things on the walls, I’m all settled in down in Cary, NC! I’m picking up on some lingo, too. Locals say Cary stands for “Contaminated Area of Relocated Yankees”… and (so far) that myth seems pretty accurate. I got the memo, didn’t I? Cary is booming right now. Look it up. If there’s a place that sets the standard for being recession-proof I'm in it. It's like the fictional town in the Truman Show – everybody smiles, waves, holds doors, drives slow, you name it. Is the entire South like this?
The phenomenon behind this place is surreal. Research Triangle Park attracts people from the world over, so there’s a different café at every corner. I wouldn’t consider this a place for the culturally-inept. I had this Jamaican cuisine down the road… so awesome!
Besides an Industrial Design professor and freelance photographer, I’m yet to meet any other designers. This isn’t Ohio though; there are far less BFA programs here, thus less company, so I don’t expect a flooded market in any sense of the word. I do know I came here already scouting a few places to professionally work... firms on par to those I walked away from in Akron/Canton.
This is Cary. She's beautiful!
